The Arthur Kill Correctional Facility in Charleston has been shuttered since 2011, but Empire State Development's second Request for Proposal process may change that. As for when remains uncertain.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Lights, camera, Staten!  After sitting dormant for nearly two years, the Arthur Kill Correctional Facility is poised to be transformed into a movie studio, sources tell the Advance.  Empire State Development, which is overseeing the repurposing of the 69-acre site, would not confirm the plans for the Charleston location, but said it is reviewing results from its second Request for Proposals and have an announcement soon.
