10 Movies With Casting Gimmicks - The Moviefone Blog

Can you believe "Escape Plan" marks the first time we're seeing Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger co-starring in a movie together? Sure, they shared some screen time in the first two "Expendables" movies, but Arnie is only a guest star there in support of what's really Sly's franchise. In the new prison-break movie opening this Friday they're both the leads.

This significance is likely what got the production rolling in the first place. Without the appeal of the casting stunt, "Escape Plan" would just be any old action flick. There are high-concept plots and then there are high-concept casting decisions. The latter are often just gimmicks to draw crowds, but they also sometimes fulfill the promise of enjoyment intended by that gimmick.
