Lee Daniels, the Oscar-nominated filmmaker who has directed four distinctly different sorts of feature films over the last nine years, will receive the Hollywood Director Award for his helming of Lee Daniels' The Butler at the 17th annual Hollywood Film Awards -- the first awards show of the 2013 season -- on Oct. 21 at the Beverly Hilton, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. (The Hollywood Film Awards is owned by affiliates of THRparent company Guggenheim Partners.)

The Hollywood Film Awards are determined by founder and executive director Carlos deAbreu and an advisory committee. De Abreu tells THR, "It's a great honor for us to recognize Lee's outstanding work with our top directing honor of the year. His tremendous vision and versatility provides us with films that are both critical and box office successes."
