Norman Mailer, the author of 'The Naked and the Dead' and 'The Executioner's Song,' wasn't just theatrical in his literary life. He also took a stab at being an actor, director and screenwriter. His 1987 film adaptation of his own novel, 'Tough Guys Don't Dance,' about an ex-con investigating a murder, was widely panned.
