Le Week-end: review and trailer | Films | Entertainment | Daily Express

In Le Week-End Meg (Lindsay Duncan) and Nick (Jim Broadbent) celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary with a trip to Paris. The hotel that once charmed is now shabby and uninviting. "It's beige," says Meg in a tone as withering as Lady Bracknell. The steep steps of the city centre challenge their aching joints and wheezy lungs. The simplest restaurants seem ruinously expensive.
Moods darken and disaster looms. As the couple bicker and banter, confess secrets and share home truths, Le Week-End develops into a wise, witty and beautifully written account of how love sometimes endures against all the odds.
Meg and Nick are like a mellower version of Albee's Martha and George. They have reached a dangerous stage of their lives.
The children have gone, careers are rushing towards the finishing line, regrets seem an indulgence and a frightening old age beckons.
